How we can love the
Blessed Mother on Mother's Day...
“Do not be afraid of
loving the Blessed Virgin
too much, for you can never love her enough.
And Jesus will be very happy
because the Blessed Virgin is His Mother.”
Saint Thérèse of Lisieux
A Personal Reflection:
As a Catholic, I have been taught to love the Virgin Mary, as the
Mother of Jesus, and my own Mother. Throughout the years, my
love for
Her has increased. So has my joy!
For several years, I had the privilege of teaching religion at a
Catholic school. It was a very blessed and fruitful
experience. One day not long ago,
as I returned to visit my former Principal, I said to her,
”I believe the secret to teaching religion is to include the
Virgin Mary.”
I remember early one school-year, one
of my students presented me with one of the most beautiful
pictures I have ever seen of the Virgin Mary. It immediately
had a prominent place in our classroom. People passing by
the room, would look in and see this lovely image of our Heavenly
Mother. At times, I noticed people doing double-takes.
Some people told me they thought it was a person…she looked so
real. I think Mary bestowed many graces to show us that she
is our Mother today! Mother Mary is real, and she very much
wants us to love her Precious Son, Jesus.
For years, I have enjoyed sharing the following
scripture verse,
because it shows that Jesus, from the Cross, gave us His Mother.
Recently, I noticed the verse I have italicized here:
”But standing by the cross of Jesus,
were His mother, and His mother’s sister,
Mary the wife of Clopas and Mary Magdalene.
When Jesus saw His mother,
and the disciple whom he loved standing near,
He said to His Mother,
’Woman, behold your Son!’
Then, He said to the disciple
’Behold your mother!’
and
from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.”
John 19:25-27
“…and from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.”
I believe this is the secret to happier and more serene lives…
invite Mary into our homes!
How do we do
this? We can prayerfully invite her to come and dwell in our
homes. We can also place a picture or statue of Mary in a
special place in the home, as a reminder that she is there to
protect you and your family and to care for your needs.
Remember the wedding feast of
Cana,
in the Gospel of John 2:1-10? With Mary, there was much joy,
because she said,
“Do
whatever He tells you.”
Ask for the grace, through the
intercession of Mary Immaculate Queen, to proclaim Jesus Christ as
your Lord and Savior. And, pray together, with family and
friends.
Sometimes, we
forget that the Mother of Jesus is our Mother, too. On this
Mother’s Day, may you experience the love of the most pure and
holy Virgin Mary. May you be encouraged to invite her into
your
home. May this little prayer help
you to rediscover your Heavenly Mother who loves you
so:
”Mary, Mother of Jesus,
be a Mother to me now.”
Mother Teresa of Calcutta
May the Woman who
“mothered” our Savior Jesus Christ, “mother” you,
advise
you, console you and teach you to love her Son, as She did.
Happy
Mother’s Day Mary!
We Love You!
